In this article you will find my reviews of the best Makita blower models, a well-known brand in the gardening sector.
Are you interested in Makita blowers? Well, know that this Japanese manufacturer offers many different models, suitable for a multitude of purposes. For example, we have cable electric appliances, battery powered ones and obviously models equipped with internal combustion (petrol) engines for professional use. From the garden to the sheds, passing through the meadows and large plots of land, these jewels of Makita are able to cover any possible need. So let’s find out which are the best blowers of this brand from the Rising Sun.
Table of Contents
Features of the Makita blower
They are practical and easy to use, ergonomic and versatile. In summary, there is a blower for every possible need, from professional maintenance of green spaces, up to domestic uses (therefore oriented to private individuals). What are their technical peculiarities?
- Diet: as I told you, Makita produces electric blowers (with cable or with battery) and with petrol engine. The former have a price that can range from 70 to 130 euros, while the latter start at around 200 euros and can exceed 450.
- Engine power: obviously depends on the type of engine used. The petrol ones are much more powerful, which is normal considering that they are professional models. The electric ones, on the other hand, are perfect for home use.
- Performance: compact but powerful, this is the rule with the blowers of the brand in question. They have excellent values in terms of speed of the air flow generated by the motor fan, and despite this they maintain a low weight and excellent handling.
- Accessory functions: most of the Makita leaf blowers only work as a leaf blower, so they do not have the suction mode and certainly do not chop the brushwood. However, there are exceptions, and it is easy to recognize them, because they have the bag supplied.
Best Makita blowers
1. Makita DUB182Z Blower 18V
It is the cheapest of the company, and you can understand it immediately from the price, which in fact fluctuates around 80 euros. If you want to take home a cheap but good quality Makita battery blower, then I recommend the DUB182Z. What are its characteristics? First of all, know that it is a wireless model, but the battery must be purchased separately, together with the charger (because they are not included in the package).
- Battery model (NOT included)
- Compatible with 18V battery
- Air speed: 288 kilometers per hour
- Weight: 1.3 kg (without battery)
- Suitable for gardens and paths
As for the technical data, the leaf blower in question is capable of producing a flow of air at a speed of 288 kilometers per hour, and is compatible with 18-volt Makita batteries. Secondly, it has a comfortable ergonomic handle and the absence of the thread allows you to move almost without limits, although of course you will be constrained by the battery life, which is around 20 minutes. There is also a more modern version, but practically identical:
Excellent handling, considering that it weighs about 1.36 kilos, to which you will still have to add the battery. Plus, it’s perfect for gardens, driveways and small areas in general, even though the power isn’t the highest in the industry. Also know that the Makita DUB182Z allows you to activate the blow by pressing a convenient trigger, and that there is a selector to customize the speed of the air flow.
PRO
- Excellent value for money
- Good blowing power
- Ideal for gardens and paths
- Good battery life
- The speed reaches 288 km / h
- Selector to adjust the speed
AGAINST
- Battery and charger not included
- Not suitable for professional use
2. Makita DUB362Z Wireless 2 Batteries
Another lap, another race, another Makita battery blower. Indeed, it would be better to say “on batteries”, since it takes 2 to make it work. They are not included in the package, so the expense will inevitably rise, but I assure you that it is worth it. By mounting two batteries, in fact, its total autonomy even reaches up to 60 minutes, if you use it at minimum power.
- 2 battery model (NOT included)
- Compatible with 18V batteries
- Air speed: from 27 to 53 meters per second
- Weight: 3.9 kg (without battery)
- Suitable for gardens and paths
The duration of this leaf blower is undoubtedly one of the most interesting aspects, so much so that the Makita DUB36Z can be compared to the petrol ones, if we consider the freedom of action. Since there is a flow rate regulator, you will be able to determine at what power to use it. Set to the maximum it lasts about 20 minutes, while in the average values it reaches around 40-45 minutes. Be aware that there are 6 possible adjustments in total (a large number).
The handle, in addition to being comfortable and ergonomic, is telescopic and therefore you can lengthen or shorten it according to your needs. Furthermore, this Makita product is not heavy (about 4 kilos without battery), despite having a motor with a larger fan and therefore with a more powerful blowing force. Concluding the discussion on batteries, you need two of 18V. There is also a second model that mounts 2 again, always not included:
What are the other qualities to emphasize? It is easy to use and has a well balanced body, plus there is an LED that signals the status of the batteries. Then consider that at maximum power it sweeps away everything, and that the accessories include the shoulder strap, the long nozzle and the extension. Finally, my personal advice is to use it with 5 Ah or better still 6 Ah batteries, to extend its life.
PRO
- High blowing power
- It even moves the stones
- Record-breaking battery life
- Speed adjustable on 6 levels
- Excellent supply of accessories
- Quiet, handy and easy to use
- Ideal for private use
AGAINST
- Batteries and charger not included
- Not for continuous use
3. Makita BHX2501 4T Engine Blower
Let’s take a big leap forward, and move on to a Makita petrol blower, equipped with a 4-stroke engine. Being a 4T, the BHX2501 runs on petrol, and in fact you will find the tank to pour the oil separately, with a capacity of around 0.5 liters. Know that it is also equipped with a vacuum cleaner and shredder function, but to use it in this way you will have to purchase the kit separately, which includes the special nozzle and the 35-liter bag.
- Model with petrol engine
- Motor power: 810 watts
- Air speed: 64.6 meters per second
- Weight: 4.5 kilograms
- Suitable for professional use
- Expandable with the vacuum and chop kit
The technical properties are very high, although the price in my opinion is rather low. It is no coincidence that this is a professional blower, with a power of 810 watts, a displacement of 24.5 cubic meters and capable of “shooting” an air flow up to a speed of 64.6 meters per second (at maximum power). As always, there is a selector for adjusting the speed level.
It is not too heavy, considering that it reaches 4.4 kilos, and that models with internal combustion engines generally easily exceed 7 kilograms. Also, be aware that this unit is quite noisy, but it is a defect that belongs to all the gasoline engine blowers. Finally, it is very easy to use, thanks to the presence of an ergonomic handle, which allows, among other things, to easily reach the trigger.
Although not the top in the petrol blower sector, this model wins for the relationship between quality and price. It’s pretty powerful, reliable, and well balanced, so it’s simple to use, even if you’ve never dealt with these devices. Also, remember that separately you can buy the kit to turn it into a leaf blower, vacuum cleaner and shredder.
PRO
- Excellent value for money
- Good blowing power
- Easy to handle and comfortable
- 4-stroke petrol engine
- Ergonomic and non-slip handle
- You can expand it with the vacuum and chop kit
- You can select the speed of blowing
- Professional model
AGAINST
- Quite noisy at top speed
- The price goes up if you also buy the kit
4. Makita EB7660TH 4 Stroke Backpack Blower
I could not tell you about this backpack and 4-stroke engine product, without a shadow of a doubt one of the best Makita petrol blower models. The presence of the shoulder straps makes it very comfortable to wear, although it is heavier than average (around 11 kilos). It has a very powerful blowing force, and a spring-loaded cushioning system on the back, which prevents the vibrations of the engine from bothering you.
- Backpack with petrol engine
- Engine displacement: 75.6 cubic meters
- Air speed: 92 meters per second
- 1.9 liter tank
- Weight: 10.9 kg
- Suitable for professional use
What are the other peculiarities to underline? For example, the great quality of the backpack straps, padded and therefore very comfortable, and the excellent balance of the instrument, which helps to lighten the weight a little. The engine is a real “beast”, with a displacement of 75.6 cubic centimeters, and has a record technological equipment, which includes the valve for automatic decompression and the primer for easy starting.
The accessory set is also of an excellent standard, since in the package you will find the standard tube, the telescopic tube with nozzle and of course the support harness to wear it as if it were a backpack. It continues with the good news, specifying the presence of an anti-ice valve and an antistatic system against electric shocks. Excellent tank capacity, 1.9 liters, and each model is always tested before being shipped.
Of course you can adjust the power of the air flow, up to a maximum of 92 meters per second, and performance is always guaranteed, being a professional device. Also, remember that it is fitted with a 4-stroke engine, so you don’t need to prepare the oil and gasoline mixture. Finally, despite being objectively heavy, it has a very quiet engine and consumes less than other petrol models.
PRO
- For professional use
- 4-stroke petrol engine
- Very large tank
- High airflow rate
- You can adjust the power of the jet
- Comfortable backpack model to wear
- Silent and low consumption
AGAINST
- It has a high price
- It is quite heavy
5. Makita UB0801V 3-in-1 Leaf Blower
I want to close my reviews with this Makita 3 in 1 blower, therefore able to sweep the leaves or alternatively vacuum and chop them. In fact, the package includes the bag, while the internal fan (reversing the gear) manages to chop the foliage and push the debris into the bag. In summary, it is an excellent blower already equipped with a suction kit in the package.
- Electric with cable (without battery)
- Motor power: 1,650 watts
- Air speed: 83 meters per second
- Weight: 3.2 kilograms
- Lightweight and very powerful
The power is very high, considering that it has a 1,650 watt motor, and is capable of emitting a flow of air at a very high speed (83 meters per second). It is also a model with cable, so at least in this case you will save money, because you will not have to buy the battery separately. Sure, this imposes limits on you in terms of movement and range, but you can fix it with an extension cord.
The shell is very sturdy and resistant, and the handle is ergonomic, so comfortable when you hold it. It is not a heavy tool, as it does not exceed 3.2 kilos overall, and it is as always well balanced. Remember that even if it is electric, it does not mount the battery but is powered by cable, although in the description it is written differently. Finally, you can adjust the power and the blast of air is really strong, and it’s affordable.
PRO
- Includes vacuum and mince kit
- Convenient price
- Wire fed model
- Very light (3.2 kilos)
- Ergonomic anti-slip handle
- Excellent balance
- Very high performance
AGAINST
- You may need the extension cable
What about Makita batteries?
If you are planning to buy a Makita battery blower, know that in most cases you will have to buy them separately. I understand that this is an expense to add to the list, but it is a necessary evil. It is clear that the problem does not arise, however, if you already have batteries of this brand or otherwise compatible at home. If in doubt, below I leave you the link for the original 18V 3 Ah battery and the 18V 5 Ah battery, together with the single and double battery charger.
